Business Advisor

The Temporary Business Advisor will provide support to the program at grass root and district level as a way to ensure sustainability of the REFRESH project activities, work with District Fisheries Officers (DFOs, project technicians to deliver activities to the fishing communities and serve as a mentor to the enterprises. and provide support to the development and finalization of Business Cases for the Conservation Enterprises.
Major Responsibilities:

• The Business Advisor shall maintain a positive working relationship with REFRESH partners, project beneficiaries, co-workers, and other officials by being responsive and respectful. S/he will participate in stakeholder meetings.
• Assist CEs in developing business cases and review of business concept notes
• Conduct business and financial diagnosis of 7 Conservation Enterprises
• Support CEs to get linked to financial service providers
• Identify markets for CEs to boost their income
• Conduct 4 classroom based trainings
• Identify business management mentors/experts to support CEs
• Provide business and management mentorship and coaching services to selected CEs
• Collect data using internal monitoring tools (data gathering and reporting tools)
• Develop monthly work plan on proposed activities

Candidates applying should possess the following requirements:

• Malawian citizen or right to work in Malawi.
• Master’s Degree in entrepreneurship management, Agricultural Economics/Agribusiness, Development economics, Enterprise Development, or related discipline.
• 3-5 years relevant working experience, of which preferably in the private sector. Experience working with Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of conservation enterprises, enterprise development, Village Savings and Loan methodology.
• Knowledge of business management, marketing plan development, business plan writing.
• Proficient computer skills in business software (Excel, MS Project and PowerPoint)
• Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to develop well-written, cohesive analysis and concise reports.
• Track record of building strong client and stakeholder relationships.
• Ability to generate innovative solutions in work situations.
• Fluency in English required, with knowledge of local languages an advantage

Duration of the temporary employment:
The temporary employment is expected to run up to 30 September 2022
